Q: I scored 70 per cent in Plus Two and work as a clerk in the State Bank of India. I am pursuing BBA from Sikkim Manipal University through the distance mode. What higher studies can I pursue if I leave the job and what are the prospects if I continue?

Q: I am physically challenged and have an MBA (HR). Last year there was a vacancy in a university for the post of junior assistant, where eligibility was Plus Two. I cleared the panel interview but, like some others, haven’t yet got the appointment letter. What should I do? Tuhin Kumar Chakrabarti
A: Every institution has its own procedure for recruitment, so I am not in a position to say when you would get the appointment letter. You should apply for HR jobs in corporates. Since you are physically handicapped, you should try for a job with recruitment agencies, wherein your job would not require you to move much but could be conducted over the telephone.
Q: I am a BTech (IT) and work as senior faculty and placement in-charge at an IT training institute. I want to shift to the development / HR sector but am not getting any offers apart from that of a corporate trainer. What are the options in case I want to switch?

A: If you want to shift to the development sector, you have two choices, you can either join an NGO, a social entrepreneur or a donor agency. The development field is extremely lucrative. If you want to be in HR, you would get offers only for training, based on your background and may be in recruitment agencies. You might also wish to be in the ‘skill development’ sector, which would be a combination of development and HR training skills.
Q: I am 18 years old and doing BSc in chemistry. What are the opportunities in this subject? I want to earn while learning. What kind of part-time jobs can I get in the night or evening shifts?

A: Chemistry is a good subject and has lot of applications for various organisations. You would have prospects in research and development, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing organisations where the products are related to chemistry, such as molasses. Meanwhile you can work as laboratory assistant in pathological centres. Or you can do a vocational course in nutrition and then look for a part-time or full-time job.
Q: I am doing MCA from Ignou. Would I get offers from good companies after finishing the course? What should I do to enhance my résumé?

A: You would definitely get job offers after doing an MCA, but I think you should also do some vocational courses in specific fields so that your chances are enhanced.
