Ranchi, July 17: More than 50 youngsters took a stance against corruption in the state capital today.
Youth Power of India, an NGO that fights against corruption, opened its Jharkhand unit. Manoj Kumar, one of the national co-ordinators, said the new body would soon begin various activities here. He added that the association would raise its voice against misuse of government vehicles by ministers and corrupt practices in different offices of the state government as well as the district administration.
“Corruption is spreading its wings at an alarming rate. We believe that only the awakened youth can bring in a change,” said Kumar.
The national body already has its units in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Patna and Punjab. The Jharkhand unit of the association met today for the first time to discuss the anti-corruption programmes it will carry out in the coming days.
Ravindra Lal, an advocate of Jharkhand High Court, has been made in-charge of the state unit of Youth Power of India, while Vikram Singh, a young social activist, will take care of its Ranchi branch.
“The youth will be encouraged to invoke the RTI Act,” Lal said.
He added that the organisation would urge the state government to constitute joint committees comprising civil society members, retired bureaucrats and serving government officials to inspect different public works projects.
