Hazaribagh, Feb. 23: Hazaribagh-headquartered Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) is eyeing a Grade-A rating from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

An eight-member team of NAAC, which arrived here this evening on an four-day-long inspection beginning tomorrow, will assess the varsity on various parameters, including teaching and learning process, student vs teacher ratio, teachers and students' profiles, sports and cultural activities and infrastructure.

These apart, during their visit to the 67-acre campus in Sindoor, the NAAC members, led by A.N. Roy, will also seek feedbacks from students, teachers and alumni.

"We are really excited about the NAAC team's visit to the campus. Getting a good rating from NAAC is a big thing for any university," said vice chancellor Gurdeep Singh.

Singh added that an accreditation from NAAC was important for universities to avail the benefits of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, a centrally sponsored scheme to fund state-run high education institutions across the country.

"During their stay, the NAAC members will also consider the quality of food available at the canteen and watch a cultural event at Vivekananda Auditorium on the campus. The objective is to check whether the varsity is providing a proper environment for education and if it is encouraging students in various fields like cultural and sporting activities, apart from the academics," he added.

E.N. Siddique, the director of VBU internal quality assurance cell, said the NAAC team would also assess the curriculum development, including the choice-based credit system that the varsity had adopted last year.

"The team will visit all the 19 postgraduate departments, including engineering, law and MBA, check classrooms and toilets, interact with students, teachers and non-teaching staff. Besides, they will also check library and assess the financial management and accounts of the varsity," he added.

After the detailed inspection, the team will submit its report to the executive body of NAAC headquartered in Bangalore for the final decision. NAAC grades institutions in three broad categories A, B and C.

"It's a month-long process. We want our university to get the A rating," VC Singh added.

Established on September 17, 1992, VBU has its affiliated and constituent colleges spread over seven districts - Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Chatra, Koderma and Bokaro.
