The second entry to Tatanagar from the Burmamines-end would soon be witness to some major improvements that are likely to make it easier for passengers to access the station during rush hour.

The engineering wing of Tatanagar station has decided to resume work on a ramp and a staircase to connect the second entry with the second foot overbridge at the Chakradharpur-end.

"The work could not be completed due to the Coronavirus-induced lockdown. In the absence of a ramp and stairs, passengers are unable to get full benefit of the second entry as they are unable to enter platforms,” an official of railway's engineering division said on Thursday.

As of now, passengers who buy tickets from counters at the second entry need to walk through a passage along the station bridge before entering the platforms from the first entry gate.

The official said that they wanted to start work from the second week of July. As a part of the project, the remaining portion of the old and abandoned road overbridge would have to be dismantled.

Station director H.K. Balmuchu said he expected the work to be over in another four months or so.

"Usually, the second entry at the Burmamines end witnesses a footfall of around 1,000 passengers daily. Currently, passengers entering the station from that side are required to walk through a passage constructed along the road overbridge which leads them to platform 1.

“Once the second footbridge is operational, passengers can directly move to various platforms after entering the station from the Burmamines end," Balmuchu explained.

The second entrance proves beneficial for passengers coming from Sakchi, Golmuri, Baridih, Agrico and Telco and other areas in the eastern fringe of Jamshedpur. It will also help clear passenger rush at the main entrance.
