Jamshedpur: Look out Dimna Lake, you've got competition from two lesser-known beauties who are about to get their moment in the sun.

Scenic Burudih dam and Galudih barrage in Ghatshila subdivision, about 50km and 60km from Jamshedpur, would be developed as tourism hubs within a year. Galudih is already known to many Bengalis who visit Gouri Kunj, the home of renowned author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, around 10km from the barrage.

On Thursday afternoon, a joint inspection was carried out by Kolhan commissioner Braj Mohan Kumar and East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar at both Burudih and Galudih sites, 10km apart, following a directive from state tourism department.

Director of state tourism department Ranendra Kumar told this paper over phone from Ranchi that they wanted to develop the twin areas (Burudih and Galudih) into a tourism hub for which they had sought a report from the administration.

The Kolhan commissioner and East Singhbhum DC inspected lodging facilities at Bibhuti Vihar, a hotel run under PPP mode in Galudih, the barrage, artificial lake and waterfalls, as well as eateries and hotels near the Burudih artificial reservoir that's surrounded by hills on all sides. They also interacted with villagers in both areas for an understanding of the areas.

"We have received Rs 10 crore for developing the areas as tourism hub. Now, approach roads would be repaired, high-mast lights installed and boating facilities would start at both Burudih and Galudih," DC Amit Kumar said, adding wrought-iron chairs in ample quantities would be installed at both Burudih and Galudih, besides landscaping.

He added that in due course, the district administration would put up handicraft outlets to enable villagers sell their wares to tourists.

The senior bureaucrats also asked Galudih villagers about their irrigation problems and directed Subernarekha Multipurpose Project officials to immediately link canals with the barrage for water relief.
