Jamshedpur, Jan 27: Members of the Graduate Engineer Trainees (GET) Club will spread environmental awareness through its annual mega event — Wheels.

The event kicked off at Telco Club today.

The annual mega event was organised by the club, an association of graduate engineers who had started their careers with Tata Motors, Heavy Vehicle Axles Limited (HVAL), Heavy Vehicle Transmissions Limited (HVTL), Tata Technologies and Telcon. All the four companies were part of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco).

The theme was “Go Green”, where the youth would educate the masses about making earth a greener and safer planet. More than 1,000 students from different schools and colleges, along with the engineers, are participating in the three-day event.

“A number of cultural and game shows are lined up, but our focus will be on the green concept.

“Posters prepared by students have been put up across the campus, spreading a message on saving the environment,” said Sayantan Bhattacharya, the cultural co-ordinator of GET Club.

The campaign began with the Tata Docomo Green Run being organised by the GET Club on January 24 in Telco Colony. About 1,200 people participated. The run was followed by a tree adoption drive where saplings were distributed among children.

The website of the club — www.getclub.co.in — also offers tips on the ways to fight the green crusade.

The first day of the event saw T-shirt painting, cartooning, quiz and mehendi competitions.

Other programmes lined up for the next two days include battle of bands, choreography, skit and instrumentals performances, quiz, Ad mad show, creative writing, movie making and photography competitions.
