Table tennis veterans will now be able to display their prowess at a tournament to be held at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on June 24 and 25.
Organised by Jamshedpur Veteran Sports Club (JVSC) and supported by Tata Steel sports wing, the two-day event will be played in singles and doubles format and each match will be of three sets.
According to JVSC secretary Avinash Kumar, participants in the age group of 40 to 60 years will be able to take part.
"So far we have received 22 entries and the numbers are expected to touch 40. The matches will start at 10am sharp," said Kumar.
Avinash Kumar, who is also a former Bihar Ranji skipper, said singles matches would be played on Day I, followed by doubles on the second day.
"Earlier, we had organised a host of tournaments in athletics, badminton, volleyball, water polo, tennis and cricket. We want all sports enthusiasts above 40 years of age to stay fit and happy. The tournament will offer an opportunity to table tennis players to assemble on one platform and enjoy the day," he added.
The club is also known for felicitating ace sportspersons who have represented the state in national level tournaments.
One of the participants Ujjal Chatterjee, a resident of Bistupur Contractors Area, said he was happy to enrol his name in the tournament.
"I am looking forward to the event. I will try to give my best," said Chatterjee, who is also the secretary of East Singhbhum District Table Tennis Association.
Another participant, Santosh Jha, said, "I love playing table tennis with my son at home. The tournament will finally give me an opportunity to display my shots."
Last month, the club had organised a tennis tournament at United Club in Bistupur.
