
Jharkhand's Binod Swansi emerged national recurve champion by winning gold in the Olympic round for boys at the 38th Junior National Archery Championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday.
The 20-year-old Tata Archery Academy cadet edged out Sumit Kumar of Uttarakhand and state mate Indrachand Swami to grab the top slot.
Bengal's Suparna Singh won the title in the Olympic round for girls, while Jharkhand's Prachi Singh settled for silver. Punjab's Simranjeet Kaur managed a bronze.
"I have been in good form. I am happy the arrows found the target perfectly," Swansi, who is from Tamar (near Ranchi), said.
The archer, who joined the Tata cradle in 2010, later paired with fellow cadet Ankita Bhakat to claim the mixed team gold. The Maharashtra pair of Pravin Jadhav and Swati Nagarkar won the silver, while Sanjay Boro and Promila Daimary picked bronze.
Jharkhand won the team gold for girls through the efforts of Prachi Singh, Ankita Bhakat Vidya Kumari and Archana Sharma tripping the Maharashtra's Swati Nagarkar, Bhagyashree Kolte, Purva Palliwal and Unnati Raut.
The two-day meet for compound round will begin on Wednesday after a day of rest.
Baria Pramila, Rathva Bhavisha, Rathva Payal and Baranda Dhar from Gujarat took the bronze.
The home outfit settled for the team bronze in the boys' category as Binod Swansi, Indrachand Swami, M.Prasanna Kumar and Prakash Pan finished behind Uttarakhand's Yashdev Kumar, Akhil Choudhary, Kanak Vaidwan and Jitender Kumar (gold) and Atul Verma, Nishant Kumawat, L.Henthoiba Singh and Sukhchain Singh from Services Sports Control Board (silver).
