Jamshedpur, May 3: With summer vacation round the corner, steel city schoolgoers can look forward to having a blast at a 19-day sports camp at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
An annual event organised by Tata Steel sports department, the camp will kick off on May 13.
Students attending the sessions will be trained in a host of sporting disciplines. These include archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, handball, karate, football, volleyball, yoga and meditation, chess, table tennis, badminton, roller-skating, golf, lawn tennis, cricket and swimming.
The organisers have also made arrangements so that special athletes and underprivileged children from community centres can take part in the camp, which ends on May 31.
“The objective behind organising this camp is to create awareness about fitness and to encourage children to participate in sporting activities,” said Charles Borromeo, head of Tata Steel sports department.
The camp will be conducted in the mornings and evenings. Swimming sessions for boys will be held from 8am to 10am. Separate sessions for girls will be conducted from 4pm to 5pm.
Classes for the remaining disciplines will be held from 6.30am to 8.30am.
Students can register their names with the accounts section of Tata Steel sports department, which is open from 10.30am to 12.30am and from 3pm to 5pm). For any clarification, they can call on 6645083 between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
Experienced coaches, including some who hold a diploma from National Institute of Sports, Patiala, will train the children, said sources at Tata Steel sports department.
