Students shine in Dhanbad show

More than 660 students and officials from around the country have gathered at the Rajkamal Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Dhansar to participate in the national judo, taekwondo and chess championship of Vidya Bharti, the network of schools and institutions run by RSS.

On the second day of the three-day tournament on Sunday, players from 15 states divided into seven zones participated in different rounds of the three disciplines.

It was Uttar Pradesh’s lucky day in judo as Anil Boghal, Sachin Gota, Sohan Singh and Monek Lawlong representing western Uttar Pradesh won gold. Banshi Tiwari and Vishakha Pathar of Madhya Pradesh and Munipa Tuddu of Jharkhand also won gold in judo.

Taekwondo players of North East Zone representing Bihar and Jharkhand proved their mettle. Himanshu Kumar, Vikash Kumar and Akash Kumar of Bihar won three golds.

Phul Singh, principal of Rajkamal Saraswati Vidya Mandir said the three events were a part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Vidya Bharti’s national sports. He added the winners of the events will represent Vidya Bharti in the School Games Federation of India event in December.
