Ranchi, June 7: Reeling from an employees’ strike and heavy examination schedule, Ranchi College is yet to start admission to I A and I Sc for the current session.

It will start from next week. This academic session (2004-06), however, will be the last session for most colleges under Ranchi University, including Ranchi College, to continue with IA/ISc/I Com before intermediate teaching is delinked from the colleges and shifted to government-sponsored Plus-Two schools. College authorities have decided to announce the date of the distribution of admission forms after June 10.

The announcement will be made after a meeting of the college authorities. Officiating principal A.P. Sahu said, “At present, we are under heavy pressure of examination duty for the BA/BSc/BCom Part II and III.”

A Jharkhand High Court order effected last year had ruled that constituent colleges would have to close down intermediate teaching from this academic session.

The college was in a fix whether to start the admission. But after the university gave the green signal, it was decided that admission would be taken for this academic session.

Another reason for the college authorities to continue with the intermediate teaching for this academic session was that it would take the government a couple of years to completely shift intermediate teaching from the colleges to Plus Two schools.

Principal-in-charge Sahu said, “We are under pressure from the strike too, as our staff members are on strike, the examinations are being conducted with difficulty. Fortunately, we have four non-teaching employees from Karam Chand Bhagat College, Bero, on deputation by the university, who are assisting us in conducting the examination.”

Asked about the cut-off marks, Sahu said, “Unlike many other colleges, we never announce the cut-off marks. We simply invite the application forms from aspiring candidates and then sort out a list of candidates with the higher marks.”

There are 640 seats each in IA and ISc. Applications, which cost Rs 50, will be made available at special counters at the college after June 10.
