Ranchi, Aug. 5: Jharkhand lawn bowl players continued their quest for medals on Day 4 of the National Lawn Bowling Championship at RK Anand Lawn Bowls Green in Namkum here today.
The state has already won three gold medals and one silver and its credible performance in four semi-finals promises four more medals.
The final count will be known tomorrow.
Today, on the way to a semi-final berth in the men’s triple, Jharkhand trio Chandan Kumar Singh, Sunil Bahadur and Dinesh Kumar won three pool A matches by comfortable margins. They defeated Bihar 25-06, Rajasthan 17-12 and finally Meghalaya 26-4.
Rajiv Kumar Sahu and Krishna Khalkho won two out of three matches in the pairs event, while the match against Bihar ended in a 14-14 draw. The duo beat Rajasthan 21-7 and Meghalaya 34-8 on their way to the semi-final.
Not just men, the eves too did their bit as Kavita Kumari, Rupa Rani Tirkey and Lovely Choubey remained unbeaten in triples, marching to a semi-final slot. Jharkhand duo of Arzoo Rani and Farzana Khan won all its three pool matches. First, they beat Bihar 20-08 and then followed it up by trouncing Rajasthan 39-0 and Meghalaya 35-04.
In pool B matches, Assam won all three in men’s pairs event. Mridul Bora and Ruptu Gogoi beat Delhi 35-04, Bengal 15-08 and Arunachal Pradesh 14-13.
The Assam trio of Md Raja, Mridul Borgohain and A. Narzary won two matches, beating Delhi 17-09 and Arunachal Pradesh 27-06.
Bongita Hazarika and Manu Kumari Pal of Assam got a walkover against Bengal in the pairs event by defeating Delhi. However, they later lost to Arunachal Pradesh’s Parishmita Gogoi and Jeuti Deuri 11-19.
Nayanmoni Saikia, Tanya Choudhary and A. Saikia won all its three matches in the triples event. They beat Arunachal Pradesh 22-08, Delhi 29-08 and Bengal 24-03.
On the final day of the championship tomorrow, the remaining four gold medals — two for women’s pairs and triples, and two for men’s pairs and triples — will be awarded.
