Jharkhand State Bar Council is all set to host a national seminar titled, Continuing Legal Education For Lawyers and its Benefits, to be presided over by Chief Justice of India Teerath Singh Thakur on Saturday.

Justice Thakur, who will also lay the foundation stone of a lawyers' academy in Doranda, is likely to be accorded a grand welcome according to tribal customs and tradition for which the State Bar Council has requisitioned the services of folk artist Mukund Nayak and his internationally renowned team.

Among the others who will attend the function and address the gathering during the seminar were Supreme Court justices R. Banumathi, A.K. Sikri and A.R. Dave along with former Supreme Court Justice S.J. Mukhopadhayay, Allahabad High Court judge Pankaj Naqvi, Orissa High Court acting Chief Justice Indrajeet Mahanti and former Jharkhand High Court chief justice Prakash Tatia.

Senior advocates Pinky Anand, S. Prabhakaran will also attend the function.

Chief minister Raghubar Das will preside over the inaugural session of the seminar accompanied by Bar Council of India chairman and senior advocate Manan Mishra.

Bar Council of India vice chairman Nilesh Kumar said the Lawyers Academy at Doranda would be the second one after Kerala. It will groom budding advocates and guide them in their future career.

Justice Thakur visited Ranchi on October 10, 2015 for the inauguration of the Judicial Academy. At the time, he was the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. "But this will be his first visit to the state capital as Chief Justice of India," Kumar said, adding that the invited dignitaries, including judges, were expected to start arriving on Friday.

The State Bar Council has also arranged for special classes for a batch of 35 advocates who will begin induction classes at the Lawyers' Academy. The council will also provide them with special kits and study material, said Jharkhand State Bar Council member Hemant Kumar Shikarwar.

"The first batch of trainees will receive tips from senior judges, advocates and jurists which will be extremely helpful for them in their legal career ahead," he said, adding that court craft was an important aspect of advocacy and nothing could be better than getting inputs from judges themselves.

Suneeta Kumari, who is an advocate at Jharkhand High Court and a trainee, said she was very eager to interact with the judges, especially Chief Justice of India Thakur. "The training and exposure will certainly help me in the future," she said.
