Jamshedpur, June 6: A 24-year-old man sustained grievous injuries when some unidentified men shot at him while he was sleeping this morning.
The incident occurred at Taj Nagar under the Kapali thana outpost of Chandil police station, about 15km from here, in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, where another youth, Mohammed Kallu, was shot dead last night.
Sources claimed that Kallu’s relatives targeted Sajid Rafique — who has been admitted to Tata Main Hospital with injuries on his jaw — to avenge the murder. Sub-inspector of Kapali TOP Pramod Kumar Srivastava said police were trying to find out if the two incidents were related.
Sajid’s elder brother, Saheed, said the former was deep in slumber when someone put his hand through the window and shot him in the face. “On hearing the gun shots, Sajid’s wife Shabana woke up and switched on the light to see her husband’s face caked in blood. She alerted the other family members and Sajid was rushed to Tata Main Hospital,” added Saheed, who stays in Kadma.
When asked, Saheed said they knew about Kallu’s murder, but his brother had nothing to do with it. “Sajid is a wielder and he earns his living by working in a factory at Azadnagar. He has nothing to do with the killing that occurred in his locality. Moreover, he’s not in a position to talk now,” he added.
“As of now, we have not got any clue about who shot at Sajid. We are waiting for his speedy recovery so that he can give us a statement,” said sub-inspector Srivastava.
Meanwhile, in last night’s case, police have registered a case of murder and conspiracy against four persons — Chhota Bacha, Mohammed Majid, Mohammed Kallu and Mohammed Chand — on the basis of a statement made by Mohammed Bablu, the deceased’s brother.
All four are absconding.
“We are trying to hunt them down,” said Srivastava, also the officer in charge of Kapali TOP.
