Adventure junkies, get ready for some adrenaline-pumping water sports at Dimna Lake.

Come February 5, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) will introduce water scurfing on the lake, located some 10km from the steel city.

Scurfing was hitherto reserved for only participants of TSAF’s local outdoor leadership course. “Now, it is open for general public. We are looking forward to a good response,” said TSAF manager Hemant Gupta.

Scurfing is a form of water skiing that uses a surfboard instead of skis. The scurfer is towed behind a motorboat with a tow rope.

The rate is an affordable Rs 500 per head for half-an-hour of a thrilling aqua escapade.

According to TSAF secretary P.P. Kapadia, people aged 12 years and above are eligible for the ride. “However, a person’s booking will only be confirmed when he/she submits the application form along with the fees at the TSAF office at JRD Tata Sports Complex. One can go for scurfing between 8am and 1pm,” he added. However, maximum 30 people will be entertained at a time.

“Participants will be taken to Dimna Island by rafts. We tell men to wear T-shirts and shorts or tracks. Women can also wear tees and shorts, but if they are not comfortable in western wear, salwar kameez will do fine. Participants can change at the island. We recommend participants bring their water bottle, sun cap and glares,” he added.

Even non-swimmers can take part in the water sport. For, TSAF is taking adequate precautions like keeping life jackets ready, while experts will guide the scurfers.

Techie Ranjan Das is looking forward to try out scurfing. Equally excited is student Swati Singh. “Thanks TSAF, such activities refresh the body and mind,” she added.
