Ranchi, May 11: Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) officials, assigned the task of demolishing a portion of Bargain Bazaar, a market allegedly constructed in deviation from the approved plan, today cut a sorry figure when they had to return without success for want of proper documents.

When Santosh Kumar Jain, owner of Bargain Bazaar, demanded to see the “demolition plan” from RRDA officials, they could not produce it.

The team led by estate officer Sanjay Kumar could only produce the list of buildings where he had to carry out demolition.

But there was nothing specific mentioned in the list about the portions of buildings to be demolished.

Jain also claimed the market was constructed in compliance with the approved plan.

Jain said: “I am ready to pay fine if my building has exceeded the stipulated height of 15m. But RRDA has no right to demolish my building, disturbing business activities.”

Jain was heard quoting an order of the RRDA Appellate Tribunal. President of Real Estate Developers’ Association Rajesh Mishra said: “RRDA has begun demolition to gain cheap popularity.”

Estate officer Sanjay Kumar admitted: “Demolition work would be carried out at the market later. Jain raised some queries which we could not clear instantly. Our engineers will come out with the written demolition plan within a day or two,” he said.

RRDA vice-chairman M.P. Sinha said the demolition plan could not be provided to Jain since nobody had demanded to see such plans earlier.

Apart from this, Sinha said, people deviating from building plans knkow which part would be demolished since it is mentioned in the court order.
