Bokaro, Sept. 15: The wife of a prominent jeweller was robbed of cash and ornaments to the tune of Rs 2.5lakh at gunpoint in her home last evening.

The incident took place around 8.15pm, when four armed men barged into the Cooperative Colony house of Ravi Sarkar, who owns the steel hub’s well-known Sarkar Jewellers showrooms.

The men knocked on the main door, and pushed their way in as it was opened by Sarkar’s wife Babli (42).

The robbers punched Babli even as she pleaded with them to spare her and take whatever they wanted.

The criminals took away the jewellery that Babli was wearing and Rs 5,000 in cash from her handbag.

While leaving, the robbers secured the main gate from outside with a lock they had brought along. The domestic helps, who were in another room while the robbers were at work, tried opening the gate, failing which they called Sarkar, who broke open the lock.

Babli was rushed to Bokaro General Hospital.

Police sources said they were investigating the possibility of the involvement of someone known to the family.

Cooperative Colony is an affluent area of Bokaro steel city, and considered a “safe” place to live in.
