Ranchi shuttlers post wins

Safi Akram of Ranchi and Deyashi Kanjibiliya of East Singhbhum clinched the men's and women's single titles, respectively, on the concluding day of the 48th Mohan Memorial State-level Badminton Tournament at Mohan Ahuja Stadium in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on Sunday.

Safi Akram of Ranchi and Deyashi Kanjibiliya of East Singhbhum clinched the men's and women's single titles, respectively, on the concluding day of the 48th Mohan Memorial State-level Badminton Tournament at Mohan Ahuja Stadium in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on Sunday.

Safi faced stiff challenge from West Singhbhum shuttler Kishore Kunal and won 19-21, 21-21 in the second set of the tournament. Jamshedpur-based Deyashi claimed a comfortable 21-4, 21-11 win over Ranchi's Manisha Rani Tirkey. Deyashi also won the Under-19 girl's singles by registering a 21-9, 21-13 win over Manisha.

Ranchi's Tanmay Jain walked home with the Under-19 boy's singles title by posting a 21-16, 21-17 win over East Singhbhum's Anish Kumar Mishra.

Md Belal of Gumla and Pragya J. Bodra (East Singhbhum) won the Under-17 boy's and girl's finals, respectively.

Pragya added one more title under her belt by emerging champion in the Under-15 girl's category. She busted the challenge of district mate Shalini Maurya 27-25, 21-10.

Giridih shuttler Akash Pandit, on the other hand, won the Under-15 boy's title with a 22-20, 21-16 win over Joy Chatterjee of Hazaribagh.

Joy, however, emerged champion in the Under-13 age group by overcoming stiff fight from East Singhbhum's Raunaq Negi before prevailing 19-21, 21-11, 21-17.

East Singhbhum's Aadhya Singh claimed the Under-13 girl's title with a 21-15, 16-21, 21-17 win over district mate Anushka Sharma.
