Ranchi keeper to lead state squad

Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Ranchi wicket-keeper Shresth Sagar has been named captain of the side, which includes budding cricketers from Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, West Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Latehar, Bokaro and Simdega.

Divyanshu Raj is the lone representative from Jamshedpur in the team that also comprises Ram Roshan Sharan, Sushant Mishra, Shlok Bashisth and Pankaj Yadav from Ranchi; Aditya Narayan from Dhanbad; Shubhojeet Haldar and Anmol Choubey from West Singhbhum; Musharraf Sarfaraz of Lohardaga; Avinash Kumar, Harshit Namdev and Apoorva Anand from Bokaro; Satya Setu of Simdega; and Mohit Kumar from Latehar.

The selected players reported to Bokaro on Wednesday for a final camp to be held between November 19 and 27.

The state outfit will leave for Kalyani (Bengal) on November 28 where they will take on Bengal in the opening match scheduled between December 1 and 3.

The final list of 15 has been prepared after four training camps in Jamshedpur and West Singhbhum headquarters Chaibasa. The shortlisted cricketers for the camps also played practice matches for selection in the state squad.

"We have a good team for the tournament. Most players are in fine fettle," said Rajesh Verma, secretary of JSCA.

Jharkhand will take on Assam (December 13-15), Odisha (December 19-21) and Tripura (December 25-27). All the league engagements are scheduled in Kalyani.
