The rains are always a welcome relief. The skies darken, while my face lights up, as soon as I hear the first splash of the drops. Usually, my mother and I race round the house closing all windows and taking off dry clothes from the balcony rails.
It?s hard to study when it rains and I get distracted very easily. I stand with my face pressed against the windows watching the rain drops pattering against the glass and I would watch puddles on the street below. How people would hurry down the streets! I would listen to the sound of windows closing and screams of women asking everyone to save the dry clothes. All the while my books would lie in front, unread. Sometimes I?d want a hot cup of tea when it rains. My mother would insist that I have a glass of milk, which I detest. We?d have an argument and then we?d both drink steaming cups of tea together.

Screaming for ice cream

My best friend?s little brother is the naughtiest person I have ever known. He likes eating ice cream in summers, which is all right, and also during the winter, rains and any time of the year, which is rather a problem.
He always throws a tantrum and screams whenever he is not fed ice-cream. But give him one he shuts up and looks like a little angel and eats very quietly. Recently, my friend and I were at his home with the brother. It was raining heavily.
Then the pesky one wanted an ice-cream. So, I had to go and get one for him, while my friend stayed back guarding the petulant kid. It was raining so much I could hardly see. After a long hunt, I found a shop and got one lolly. Afterwards, I got an awful cold and was in bed for a long time.

It was a battle of wits and all our combined efforts finally paid off at the semi-finals of the 7th Inter-institutional National Debate at the Michael John Auditorium on June 23.
Organised by Birla High School, students from 13 different schools participated. Housed by Chitra Bhaskar, it was an exciting evening where students got to discuss and debate whether indeed the ?The pen is mightier than the mouse?.
In the heated debate, where ideas were thrown at one another and students challenged each other?s views, our school team emerged as runners-up. But the icing on the cake was the praise that the chairperson gave all of the participants when she commented that city students have all the potential to emerge as champions in the finals. Good luck to the city students, wouldn?t you say?
