Jamshedpur, Nov. 8: In a nail-biting finish, Little Flower School (LFS) defeated Beldih Church to reach the regional preliminary round of the Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest here today.
The quiz contest was organised by Derek O’Brien and Associates on the Loyola School premises.
Of the 15 English medium schools of the steel city that participated in the screening (written) round, six schools — LFS, Loyola, Beldih Church, Narbheram Hansraj, Sacred Heart Convent and Rajendra Vidyalaya made it to the finals.
In the screening round, the candidates were asked to answer 30 question in half an hour. The participants were from Class VII and VIII. The final was divided into six rounds, including an audio visual round and musical round in which the contestants were to identify the singer or the instrument based on the tunes that were played.
The participants had a tough time with the brainteasers, which ranged from history, biology, general knowledge and films.
Some of the questions were, “Name the ruler who was killed in 1545 AD fighting the Chandellas for the Kalinjar fort?” “The most commonly used herb in the world?” “An organ that accounts for 16 per cent of the body weight?” and “Name the character played by Hrithik Roshan in the film Koi…Mil Gaya?”
LFS with 180 points won the quiz contest followed by Beldih Church School, which took 175 points. Host Loyola managed to bag third place with 150 points. To make the contest lively, quiz master Deb Kumar Mitra also had questions for the audience, which were asked after each round.
According to Madhumita Roy, a representative of Derek O’Brien and Associates, the winner of the regional preliminary round would represent the city at the All-India Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest, which would be telecast. The finalists were awarded certificates and a Bournvita Book of Knowledge.
