Jamshedpur, June 11: Electricity bills can soon be paid at post offices across the state.

Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) has tied up with the postal department to start the facility in 15 days.

“The priority is to reach out to the majority of the population. The postal department has a network of more than 4,000 counters across the state,” said B.N Verma, the chairman of the JSEB.

According to the agreement, electricity bills would also be collected from the doorsteps of subscribers.

“We will designate a team that will be deputed to collect bill amount from the subscribers by going to their houses. The money will be deposited at the nearest office,” said the director of Jharkhand postal services, Anil Kumar.

“Some people walk 50km to reach the nearest counter to pay their electricity bills,” said Kumar, adding that people will have easier access to a place to pay bills.

Presently, post offices collect bills on behalf of BSNL.

The JSEB has tied up with the state postal department to make things convenient for the electricity subscribers.
