Jamshedpur, Feb. 11: Cupid is not only aiming his arrows at lovesick teens, but also helping city stores do roaring business with Valentine’s Day round the corner.

Youngsters are making a beeline for the shops to find the perfect gift and woo their loved ones. Teens are thronging gift stores dotting the city to pick pocket-friendly teddy bears that have flooded the market in all sizes and colours. Another pop pick of school and college goers is the red heart, the price of which may go up as high as Rs 4,000.

Singing hearts, priced between Rs 99 to Rs 1,199, are also a lure. Besides, a magic cup for Rs 250 is also vanishing from the shelves fast.

“This is a new product this V-Day. The speciality of the cup is when you pour something hot into the it, beautiful quotations emerge front of it. Coffee mugs with colourful love quotations are also available,” said Arun Kumar, a salesperson at the Archies Gallery in Bistupur.

Flavoured candles packed in boxes adorned with romantic quotations and ceramic showpieces are among the other gift options. Dancing couple in a glass ball, heart-shaped photo frames and mementoes have also decked the shelves of the city shops.

“Chocolates and Valentine’s basket are much in demand. Since the customers are mostly teenagers and college going youths, they try to choose items which they can afford,” said a shop owner.

However, there are also few people who like to spend extravagantly on gifts,” said Nitish Saluja of Sakchi Gift Shop.

Apart from gifts, red roses are also much in demand on February 14. According to florists, the day is a boon for business. Though a few order orchids, red roses top the list. “We have already ordered an extra lot of 1,000 from Calcutta. On Valentine’s Day, a rose is the best gift,” said Mohammad Samsher, a florist in Bistupur.
