Jharcraft, which has grown its business model in leaps and bounds in India and abroad, is now getting kiddish.

The brand synonymous with khadi fabric and tussar silk will soon launch an exquisite line of clothing for children.

Come December, the state-run handloom corporation will offer a varied range of kid’s wear that promises to redefine style for finicky junior fashionistas.

Managing director of Jharcraft Dhirendra Kumar told The Telegraph that the Jharcraft Mega Store at Annapurna Building near Kadru in Ranchi was flooded with requests for a children’s range, particularly from khadi-loving parents.

“We hope to launch the collection by the end of the year. We have roped in two designers who specialise in designing children’s dresses. They have selected certain Jharcraft fabrics of their liking and will come up with suggestions for the type of collection we will launch,” Kumar said.

Jharcraft is yet to finalise the age groups. “To start with, we want to make clothes for children above three. But, nothing has been finalised yet. We will decide on what the collection we will be like within a month,” said Kumar.

At present, Jharcraft offers stitched apparels for men and women.

But that will change soon. And the fashion fiesta won’t stop with the children’s range that is eyeing a winter 2013 debut.

A classy bridal collection is also in the offing. Once the kids’ wear collection is launched, Jharcraft will organise a fashion show in Ranchi to display the bridal collection.

The fashion show will see men, women and children showcasing the fact that Jharcraft is not just about unique fabrics, it is also about trend-setting cuts and silhouettes.

“We have planned a fashion show as we have a good range that people need to know about,” Kumar smiled.

Kumar added they inked a deal with Shoppers Stop, a national departmental stores chain, two months ago.

“We have an MoU under which we agreed to display our collection (for both women and men) at 76 retail outlets of Shoppers Stop. Jharcraft will get a space of 200sqft at these stores. To begin with, we plan to display products at five outlets in Chennai, Baroda, Hyderabad, Raipur and Bhopal. Products have been sent to Bhopal and Baroda and will reach other cities very soon,” he said, adding the kid’s wear collection, when launched, would also be available.

In another agreement, Jharcraft will sell its fabrics to Shoppers Stop, while the latter employ its designers to stitch garments. “They won’t bear our label, but will have our name on the price tag, where it will be stated the material was procured from us,” Kumar added.
