Ranchi, March 10: Well-known Bhojpuri folk singer Devi who charged the vice chancellor (V-C) of Jai Prakash Narayan University, Chhapra, D.P. Sinha, with molestation, today requested Jharkhand government and Akhil Vishwa Bhojpuri Vikas Manch members to support her.

According to the singer, on February 18, she was invited to perform at a resort in Bodh Gaya. “Sinha and MLA Surendra Yadav were drunk and asked me to perform. They got on stage, using vulgar language and making lewd gestures,” she said, adding she left Bodh Gaya for Chhapra that night and faxed a request to Gaya SP to lodge an FIR against Sinha.

The incident sparked agitation from many quarters. Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged a dharna on varsity campus, demanding Sinha’s dismissal, but the latter refuted Devi’s charges.

Devi, however, wants speedy justice. “Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said the guilty would be punished, but so far no action has been taken. We want Jharkhand government and Bhojpuri outfits to support us so that singers do not face these problems,” she added.

Akhil Vishwa Bhojpuri Vikas Manch convener P.K. Singh agreed to help the singer.
