Ranchi, March 28: The district police have arrested the main accused in the Sushil Minz murder case.
Sonu, alias Imroz (26), was arrested today from his rented house at Kadru by the police after receiving a tip-off. Sonu’s arrest has also led to revelations in real estate proprietor Raju Dhanuka’s murder.
Sonu was held with a countrymade pistol, two live cartridges along with explosive substances. He admitted to his crime before the police.
Hotel proprietor Sushil Minz had received an extortion call last month. Sonu, along with his gang, had demanded Rs 10 lakh as extortion from Minz after he had wrapped up a recent land deal. Later, Minz was shot in front of his hotel for not complying with the extortion demand.
Sonu also said that the Lakhan Singh gang is responsible for Dhanuka’s murder. He said Lakhan Singh and his accomplices Amar Singh and Taukir had killed Dhanuka. However, the motive behind the businessman’s death has not been ascertained yet. “Whether Dhanuka was killed for extortion or it was a result of business rivalry is being investigated into,” said Ranchi senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar.
Kumar also said that the criminals carried firearms inside laptop bags and moved freely in the city. Whenever they were stopped by a police picket checking vehicles, the pillion riding the bike would get off with the laptop bag and walk past the police posing as a student.
Sonu is still being interrogated and he has taken responsibility for several other murders, extortions and loot cases, registered under different police stations.
