Ranchi, May 22: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will provide the required number of books for Jharkhand by the second week of June.

This is what Ranchi University vice-chancellor and NCERT member from Jharkhand S.S. Kushwaha said.

Kushwaha recently attended an NCERT meeting in New Delhi. The process would be sped up to avoid the scarcity and mad scramble for books which occurred in 2003, he said.

Kushwaha said, “Jharkhand requires 214 lakh copies. About 37.10 lakh have been printed. Out of that 13.46 lakh have been despatched. The rest will arrive by mid-June.”

Kushwaha requested the NCERT authorities to provide books on time so that the classes are not delayed. He apprised them of the problems faced by the students last year after the NCERT changed the syllabus and new books were prescribed.

There was a mad rush for the books last year. The limited consignment of books was exhausted immediately after its arrival.

Kushwaha said books for Classes I to VIII are due to arrive by the second week of June.

About 10,15,000 copies each of Bal Bharti Bhag I, Abhyaspustika Bal Bharti Bhag I, Learning English Book I, Workbook Learning English Book I and Aao Ganit Seekhein, for Class I will be despatched next month.

For Class II, 8,08,000 copies each of Bal Bharti Bhag II, Abhyaspustika Bal Bharti Bhag II, Learning English Book II, Workbook Learning English Book II and Aao Ganit Seekhein II will be required.

The Class III requirement is 10,66,000 copies each of Learning English Book III and Workbook Learning English Book III and 4,56,000 copies each of Bal Bharti Bhag III, Abhyaspustika Bal Bharti Bhag III, Dekhen Maren Aur Seekhein and Aao Ganit Seekhein III.

The Class IV quota comprises 3,28,000 copies each of Bal Bharti Bhag IV, Abhyaspustika Bal Bharti Bhag IV, Dekhen Maren Aur Seekhein IV and Aao Ganit Seekhein IV. For Class V 2,82,000 copies each of Bal Bharti Bhag V, Abhyaspustika Bal Bharti Bhag V, Dekhen Maren Aur Seekhein V and Swati Bhag I, Abhyaspustika Swati Bhag I and Aao Ganit Seekhein are required.

The Class VI requirements are 2,62,000 copies each of Modern English VI, Workbook Modern English VI, Bharti Bhag I, Naya Jeeva Bhag I, Hindi Vyakran Aur Rachna VI, Ganit Bhag I, Bharat aur Vishwa, Vigyan Aur Pradhyogiki and Sanskrit Dhara VI. Class VII requires 1,83,000 copies each of Modern English VII, Workbook Modern English VII, Bharti Bhag II, Naya Jeeva Bhag II, Ganit Bhag II, BharatAur Vishwa VII, Vigyan Aur Pradhyogiki VII and Sanskrit Dhara VII.
