Ranchi, March 19: The Jharkhand team for the senior national women?s hockey tournament is looking for a win this year with claims that it is ?more matured? than last year despite being constituted within a short period.
The team aims to win the tournament, which will be conducted in New Delhi from March 23 to 30. The state team had secured third place at the same tourney last year.
The Jharkhand State Women?s Hockey Association (JSWHA) announced the 16-member state team today. Pushpa Pradhan has been appointed as the captain, S.K. Mohanty as the coach and Rakesh Dwiwedi as the manager.
JSWHA officials said, although the team was assembled in a very short time, it was likely to perform better than the previous year because of the number of mature players.
S.K. Mohanty, who went with the team last year, said the same mistakes would not be repeated this year.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Mohanty said: ?It was an immature team that succumbed under pressure last year. This time although the team has been assembled in a very short period, aspects such as penalty corner conversions and free hits from different positions have been looked into and nurtured in the training camp.
Cash prizes were also distributed to the members of the state team today. The women had participated in hockey tournaments held in Singrauli and Meerut recently.
