Hazaribagh, Aug. 4: The sleepy Hazaribagh town has just got a grand address.

A luxurious hotel with three-star facilities has been inaugurated on the Ranchi-Patna Highway close to government bus stand on Friday.

Named Canary Inn after the famous Canary Hills, about one-and-a-half kilometres from the town, the hotel boasts everything from a multi-cuisine restaurant, banquet hall and bar to well-furnished rooms and suites. The management has applied for a three-star tag.

Talking to The Telegraph, Madhu Singh, the owner of the hotel, said: “My husband C.K. Singh (a development officer with the Life Insurance Corporation of India) had always wanted to set up a deluxe hotel in town. My daughter, Manisha, and I wanted to turn his dream into a reality and worked on this project.”

The hotel has 30 rooms and the tariff ranges from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,400 (suite). Defending the high rates, Madhu said that it was not possible to keep the charges low as the hotel has three-star facilities.

The brain behind the beautiful design of Canary Inn is a Mumbai-based firm, Rohit Parmar and Associates, added Madhu’s husband. “But the tough task was to select a suitable name for the address. I consulted a number of social workers, researchers and scholars and discussed the possible names for the hotel. Then one fine day, I thought of naming the hotel after the Canary Hills. After all, it is one of the best tourist spots in the state,” said Singh.

According to Singh, it was high time that the town boasted such an address. “During my visits to other places, I realised my town lagged behind as far as hospitality was concerned. Many companies shy away from holding meetings here as we do not have a good hotel. They go to Ranchi or somewhere else,” he said, adding that he hoped that Canary Inn would be able to meet the requirements of the guests.

“We will upgrade the facilities with time,’ he promised.
