Jamshedpur, June 27: Little did Piuli Konar and Deepshekhar Mukherjee realise that they would be creating history when they joined International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) two years ago.
Both have become the institute’s first two students to be recruited by Tommy Hilfiger (Arvind Murjani Brands) — one of the widely recognised names in the fashion industry. Tommy Hilfiger offers a broad array of products including apparel, accessories, footwear, fragrance and eyewear.
Centre head of INIFD Rashmi Chopra said here today that the selected students would get the designation of customer relation officer with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, including perks. The students would be posted at Chandigarh.
“We are happy that the students were selected during the campus interviews. Seven of our students were shortlisted by United Colors of Benetton,” she said.
“Both the students who have been selected have always performed well and are deserving,” said the centre head.
The duo would be engaged in various jobs such as designing, production management and sample co-ordination.
Deepshekhar, who hails from Bokaro, expressed his happiness. “I was looking forward for a placement in a global apparel company. I am all set for the new job. The institute has helped me to groom and this stint will only hone my skills better,” he said.
Piuli, a resident of the steel city, shared his excitement.
“I could not believe my ears when I was informed about my selection. I had put in a lot of effort to face the campus interviews. I look forward to excelling in the field,” she said.
INIFD has alliances with many distinguished international brand companies.
The institute offers a two-year course on advanced diploma in fashion designing. The course is recognised by Annamalai University.
The students of the fashion institute have been well placed in the past campus recruitments, too. Some of them are working with the leading export houses in Delhi and Mumbai.
A few students have also made their mark as designers.
Director of INIFD Neetu Chopra told The Telegraph over phone from New Delhi that the institute is focussing on getting more international apparel brands for campus recruitments.
But, she refused to disclose the names of the companies.
Chopra said that efforts are being made to employ experts as part of their faculty.
