Ranchi, Feb. 27: The process of appointment of teachers in the three state universities by Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) could run into rough weather following Jharkhand BET-NET Association’s letter to the chancellor’s office about the alleged non-implementation of reservation rules for the physically challenged.
Association secretary Sunil Kumar Kamal has shot off a letter to Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, also the chancellor of the universities, and sought his intervention in the matter.
JPSC advertisement number 01/2007 vis-à-vis appointment of 1,058 lecturers, readers and professors has only reserved 10 posts for the physically challenged candidates in Ranchi University but fails to spell out any clear terms in the others, Kamal said.
“Advertisement details of the two other universities —Sidho Kanho Murmu University and Vinoba Bhave University — do not mention any reservation for the physically challenged category. We want an immediate intervention from the authorities concerned,” Kamal said.
The letter circulated among the authorities and the governor’s office refers to the violation of the Disabled Act, 1995, which mandates for 3 per cent horizontal reservation for the physically challenged in all categories.
The association has also underlined that the provision of Ranchi University is extended to only a few subjects.
JPSC chairman Dilip Prasad said the commission had put up the advertisement in tune with the terms set by the respective universities.
“But after the interviews, the commission will make its recommendations and see that the reservation policies are followed in toto,” Prasad told The Telegraph.
The association has also pointed out that according to the orders of Jharkhand High Court appointment for only the posts of lecturers were supposed to made by the advertisement published by JPSC. “This is a matter of the contempt of court. The JPSC should be directed to extend the date for filling application form for lecturers only,” Kamal said. He has sent a copy of the letter to the President, the Prime Minister, the chief minister, and the state HRD minister, among others.
