Ranchi, June 28: Manoj Kumar Gupta, Pratapur BDO in Chatra district, has received a threat letter written by suspected Maoists from Giridih, asking the officer to quit the job and leave the area within 15 days.

The letter, written with red ink on a CPI(Maoist) letterhead, has threatened to blow up his office building if the BDO failed to abide by the diktat.

Gupta received the letter, in which the three suspected rebels identified themselves as Anjani Kumar Sinha, Mantu and Ravindra Verma from Barmasia of Giridih, through the registered post on June 25.

“We have taken serious note of the threat letter,” said Chatra SP Anjani Kumar Jha.

Earlier this year, the trio — Anjani, Mantu and Ravindra — had threatened to blow up Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, railway stations in Koderma and Gaya, and international airports in Patna and Gaya.

IG (Operation) M.S. Bhatia said police had identified five persons in Giridih. Their handwriting samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory in Calcutta. Reports are expected soon, he added.
