Ranchi, March 5: The state government has sent a report to the Centre on MGNREGS activist Niyamat Ansari’s killing, indicating the invlovement of Maoists without specifying any possible reasons behind the crime.
The report, prepared by Latehar deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar Purwar and SP Kuldip Diwedy, along with a photocopy of an FIR filed by Ansari’s wife.
“We have sent the report to the Union rural development ministry. It suggests that the reasons behind Ansari’s killing would be ascertained only after police investigations were completed,” state MGNREGS commissioner Ajoy Kumar Singh told The Telegraph.
Development economist and one of the key architects of the Centre’s flagship job scheme Jean Dreze visited Manika in Latehar district today to find out details of events that led to killing of Ansari who had unearthed various corrupt practices that were being practised while implementing MGNREGS.
Dreze met Ansari’s colleague Bhukan Singh at Manika block headquarters where the Latehar district administration had arranged to put him up since he was also a target in Wednesday night’s attack.
“Dreze met Singh, his wife and two sons. He will camp here for a day or two,” said James Herenj, a local activist.
