Dhanbad: Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University is all set to launch a yoga course from the next academic year in 2019.

Koylanchal university vice chancellor Anjani Kumar Srivastava made the announcement while taking part in a yoga session at PK Roy Memorial College on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on Thursday.

"After Ranchi University we will be the second varsity in the state to start a yoga course. We are yet to decide on the other nitty-gritty related to the course," said Srivastava.

The vice chancellor further said initially he had planned to launch the course from the upcoming session starting next month.

"We are already tied up with a host of issues like new admissions and constituting statutory bodies and committees like senate, syndicate and academic council. So we thought of launching the course next year," added Srivastava.

Koylanchal university is currently facing manpower crunch and shortage of infrastructure as the construction work of the new varsity building at Bhelatand is not complete yet. The university is currently functioning from a single-storey building on Luby Circular Road.

The vice chancellor later took part in a similar yoga session at SSLNT Women's College in Hirapur.

BIT Sindri, the lone state-owned engineering college affiliated to Koylanchal university, had introduced a yoga course in July last year.

In another development, Koylanchal university logo was also finalised during a meeting on Thursday. "We are also mulling on launching a temporary website for the university until the final website developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) is ready. The temporary website will help students solve their admission queries," he said.
