Jamshedpur, March 9: Wealthy businessmen and corporate bigwigs of the state beware!

After the recent abduction of Sumanto Chatterjee, state intelligence sleuths have warned the government that there might be more incidents of kidnapping.

Though Chatterjee was rescued on Sunday, fresh abduction bids were likely to be initiated by the criminal-politician nexus of Bihar on businessmen and top corporate officials to make a fast buck before the election.

“Under instructions from chief minister Arjun Munda, the state intelligence department investigated the entire episode and discovered the startling fact that criminal gangs from Bihar, supported by the politicians, plan to kidnap eminent businessmen and corporate bigwigs and demand ransom. The money will be used during the general election in Bihar,” senior government officials said.

The government feels it was largely due to the belief that “there is more money in this state than in Bihar” that the criminal-political nexus have set their eyes on Jharkhand.

“All the major industries are based in our state. In undivided Bihar, 70 per cent of the government’s revenue went from south Bihar (now Jharkhand). It shows that our state has more money than Bihar, and during polls one needs money to defeat the opponents,” said a senior police official.

On the basis of the intelligence report, the chief minister has issued instructions to the authorities concerned, to tighten the belt and plug all loopholes so that no similar incidents like the Chatterjee abduction case are repeated in the state.

On the Sumanto Chatterjee incident, home secretary J. B. Tubid said: “We convened a meeting to chalk out a strategy so that such incidents are not repeated.”

“We will take steps to ensure the safety of businessmen and corporate officials in the state,” Tubid added.
