Jharkhand ropeway: Govt provides Rs 5 lakh compensation to kin of deceased

The Jharkhand government on Monday paid compensation worth Rs 5 lakh to dependents of each of the three deceased persons of Deoghar Ropeway Tragedy including, Asha Kumari, Deepali Devi and Kumar Gaurav.

The compensation amount in the form of cheques was handed over jointly by Hafijul Hasan, minister of Minority Welfare; Badal Patrlesh, Agriculture minister and Narayan Das, Deoghar MLA of BJP during a function held at Deoghar district collectorate in presence of a host of officials led by Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manju Nath Bhajantri.

The trio also felicitated 20 other local residents by offering them citation and shawl for their exemplary courage, assistance and dedication during the rescue work in various ways either by helping the rescuers in the rescue work or by arranging food etc to the trapped persons through drones.

Notably the state government had promised Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family of each of three victims of Trikut Ropeway mishap of Deoghar while the ropeway operator Damodar Ropeways and Infra Limited also made the same announcement.

Altogether 46 persons were rescued by Indian Air Force working in closes coordination with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo Tibetan, Indo Tibetan Border Police, Indian Army and Local administration following the tragedy which took place on April 10 at around 4 pm after some trolleys of the ropeway collided with each other.

Badal Patralekh while addressing the family members said, “At this hour of grief our sympathies are with you and we will try to extend all possible help to you.”

Addressing locals who were also felicitated, he said, “At the moment of rural disaster your courage and help is worth appreciation.”

Hafijul Hasan on the other hand, said, “The state government and district administration will continue its effort to bring the family members of deceased persons of the ropeway tragedy into the mainstream of the society."
