PWD to tackle traffic snarls
Jamshedpur: Traffic snarls along the busy Jamshedpur-Hata Road, which connects East Singhbhum with West Singhbhum and is one of the main route for iron ore transportation, will soon be a thing of the past with the state government?s public works department (PWD) undertaking a project to broaden it.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkarni said work on the project would be started soon by the road construction wing of the PWD.
Kulkarni on Tuesday was reviewing the progress of different projects in a monthly meeting. ?The Jamshedpur-Hata project would basically require widening a stretch of over 18 kilometres. Earlier, the road that started from Tatanagar railway station was witnessed regular traffic snarls. With the completion of this project there would be no more traffic snarls,? said Kulkarni.
Beside this, other important road projects that are lined up are the Hata-Tiring Road (which goes towards Mayurbhanj in Orissa), Barabum-Bandgaon Road (inter-state road connecting Jharkhand with West Bengal) and Kandra-Chandil Road.
Jamshedpur-Hata road would involve Rs 10 crore while Hata-Tiring road (a stretch of 13 kilometres) would cost about Rs 6.5 crore. The 12-kilometres long Barabum-Bandgaon Road has received a a technical sanction of Rs 8 crore, while 12 -kilometre long Kandra-Chandil Road would involve a sum of Rs 12 crore.

Land mafia
Giridih: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha secretary Raju Poddar has complained to deputy commissioner that the land of Kasab Mohall of Giridih municipality has been sold by the land mafia. Poddar, in his petition to the DC, stated with relevant document that the Giridih municipality had got the land (H.N. 164, ward number 3) from one Nazir Mia after a certificate case in 1933. But land mafia sold it in April this year. Poddar also put the municipality in the dock saying the civic body did not react despite knowing that the land was being sold off.
Agitation rerun
Giridih: Hundreds of residents of Leda panchayat have once again started an agitation before the deputy commissioner?s office under the banner of Chetriya Sangarsh Samiti demanding basic amenities in their villages. The villagers had also staged a dharna a fortnight ago. After it failed to draw the attention of the district administration, the villagers have started the dharna afresh on Tuesday. ?There is no road, electricity, water, or healthcare facilities, in our villages and we have informed administration and government?s representatives, on several occasions but all in vain. Finally, we staged a dharna 15 days ago. The DC had assured us then that the pending works would begin immediately, but nothing materialised,? said samiti secretary Rameshwar Verma.
