Seven cops hurt in accident

Ranchi: Seven homeguards were severely injured when the bus they were travelling in turned turtle near Ramgarh valley under Ramgarh police station area in Hazaribagh district on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, the incident took place around 4 pm when the driver of the Ranchi-bound bus lost control while trying to avoid hitting a car coming from the opposite direction. The injured have been admitted to Rims and the condition of two of them is critical. The accident disrupted movement of vehicles for over two hours.

Woman commits suicide

Dumka: A woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Jarmundi in Dumka on Sunday. Though the exact reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained, police said family feud could be a reason.

Sources said the police have found a suicide note written by the victim. A case of unnatural death has been registered with Jarmundi police station.

Temple loot case

Dhalbhumgarh: An FIR was lodged at Dhalbhumgarh police station on Sunday against unidentified criminals, who looted jewellery worth Rs 70,000 from a Kali temple.

According to priest Kamal Mukherjee, when he returned to the temple on Saturday morning he found the lock of the main door broken and the idol?s jewellery missing. Police are investigating the matter.

Legal workshop

Chaibasa: The Chaibasa District Legal Services Authority organised a legal awareness camp at St Xavier School?s welfare centre on Sunday. Additional district sessions judge A.K. Roy was the chief guest. Chief judicial magistrate A.K. Singh spoke on laws regarding alcoholism, accidents and underage marriages.

Observers? meet

Chaibasa: Six central polling observers held a pre-poll meeting with the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, returning officers and other district senior officials at Circuit House on Sunday. District observer S.C. Tiwari expressed concern over the deployment of officials to extremist-ravaged Assembly constituencies. The observers also inspected the district strong room and the counting hall. The district administration has selected the Mahila College for post-poll counting.

Promotion

Bokaro: Basant Kumar Thakur, assistant general manager of the public relations department of Bokaro Steel Plant has been promoted to the post of chief of communications. Nine deputy general managers have been promoted to the post of general managers.

Poets conference

Garhwa: The local unit of Taraqqi-e-Urdu organised a mushaira in Garhwa on Sunday as part of the organisation?s Republic Day celebrations. Poets from different parts of the state were invited to the meet. Taraqqi-e-Urdu has been organising such literary events regularly in Garhwa over the past years.

Award ceremony

Jamshedpur: Indian Oil Corporation Limited on Sunday declared the results of the various events held during the oil and gas conservation fortnight. The prize distribution ceremony was held at Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute (SNTI) in Bistupur. K.S. Shankar of Kerala Samajam Model School, Rishiraj of Kerala Public School and Monil Sarkar of School of Art were given away prizes in the painting competition. Participants from the Tuiladungri community centre walked away with the prizes in the cooking competition, which was held at Sonari community centre.

Booking counter

Jamshedpur: The railway ticket booking counter at Bistupur became functional on Sunday. The counter, which was earlier manually operated, has now become computerised. The process of computerisation of the ticket counter was on for the past four years. Passengers will now be able to get their tickets from the Bistupur counter itself.
