Three arrested for arms sales

Ranchi: Ranchi police arrested three persons, including a father-son duo.m for their involvement in illegal sale and purchase of arms in and around the state capital. Acting on a tip, the police arrested Riyasat Ali from Itki police station area on Wednesday. One countrymade revolver, two countrymade pistols and four live cartridges wererecovered from his house.

The police then raided the Risaldar Nagar area in Doranda and nabbed Ahtasha Khan and his son Aurengzeb Khan. Two countrymade revolvers and two double barrel countrymade pistols were recovered from them. According to police sources, the trio used to bring firearms from Munger and sell it in the capital. The price was anything between Rs 4,000 and 40,000.

Ranchi City superintendent of police Suman Gupta said: ?These arms may be countrymade, but they are of a very high quality. At present, we are interrogating the arrested persons to find more clues. This is an important catch considering the coming elections.?

Nominations on day three

Giridih: Four leaders filed their papers on the third day of nomination for the coming election. The first nomination was independent candidate Arjun Narayan Deo, an advocate contesting for the Rajdhanwar Assembly seat. BJP rebel Harihar Narayan Prabhakar, who joined LJP recently and has won from Rajdhanwar on three occasions, also filed his nomination. Prabhakar?s candidature is considered significant as it could mean defeat for industry minister Ravindra Rai.

BJP?s Gandey candidate Laxman Savankar was the third candidate to file his nomination for Gandey seat. Laxman has won from Gandey twice, while he has lot thrice at the same constituency. Kamrul Hoda Ansari, LJP candidate for Bagoder Assembly seat, also filed his candidature on Wednesday.

BJP man killed

Chaibasa: Active member of BJP, Chhote Lal, was gunned down by unidentified persons in Noamundi, late on Tuesday. Police said Lal was, resident of southern mining region of West Singhbhum, was accused of various murders and robberies. ?Recently, he was released from Chaibasa prison and personal enemies wanted to end his life. And finally they succeeded,? said a senior police officer. Noamundi police have not recovered the body as yet. District police, engaged in a massive search operation, have failed to trace the killer. District superintendent of police Navin Kumar Singh was not available for comment.

Candidate talk

Chaibasa: BJP?s official candidate for Jagannathpur Assembly seat, Jawahar Lal Banra, said irate party workers of reserved constituencies had informally communicated their interest towards working for the party at the national level. ?Workers hailing from different parts of the constituency, including the rebel stronghold, were positive. They wanted to work for me,? Banra said. Narrating the likely political agendas, Banra said the party would address employment, infrastructure and other fundamental needs of indigenous people.

Slice for minority

Giridih: Lok Janshakti Party MP Ramchandra Paswan announced 10 per cent quota for Muslims of Jharkhand if he is voted to power. Brother of Ram Vilas Paswan, Ramchandra was addressing a public meeting at Gandey, a Muslim-dominated belt in Giridih district. He said the party will field candidates in all Assembly segments of Jharkhand.

Lucky 13

Giridih: Considering number 13 as the lucky one for his party and for himself, rural development minister and two-time legislator from Giridih, Chandra Mohan Prasad will file his nomination on Thursday on a BJP ticket.
