Rs 60,000 looted in train dacoity
Ranchi: Passengers of Varanasi-Ranchi Inter-city Express were looted of Rs 60,000 in cash and jewellery early on Tuesday morning.
Railway authorities said 10 armed dacoits forced their way into two compartments of the train around 3.45 am and looted the passengers. They also assaulted the passengers who tried to resist. The railway authorities suspended the Railway Protection Force jawans, who were escorting the train.
Railway sources said the dacoits boarded the train at Ramgarh railway station. They were all armed with swords, daggers and country-made pistols. Shivchandra Pathak, a passenger, lodged an FIR with Muri Government railway station. According to the complaint, the assailants got off from the train before it reached Mile railway station.
DVC worker electrocuted
Bermo: A Damodar Valley Corporation worker died on Tuesday when he came in contact with live wires.
Thirty-year-old Chanki Prasad Mahto of Kanchkiro village in Nawadih block was illegally tapping electricity from live overhead wires when the incident occurred, said sources.
Aptech placements
JAMSHEDPUR: Aptech Computer Education organised a placement camp for students who successfully completed its ACCP Program at its Sakchi centre recently.
The companies that participated in the placement camp, included Net Guru, Research Engineers Limited, Pioneer Computers (P) Limited, ICICI Web link, Ma Foi Management Consultants Limited, Alpha Softwares, Chawla and Associates, Chartered Accountants and Timken India. About 100 Aptech students from Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh,Giridih and Chaibasa participated in the event. Seshan Srinivasan, zonal head, Aptech Computer Education (East) said the camp was in keeping with Aptech’s commitment to provide the best placements to its students.
Rally
JAMSHEDPUR: The Jamshedpur branch of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad took out a rally in protest against the government’s education policy. Parishad members said students are suffering due to the mindless education policies of the government. The rally kicked-off from the Postal Park and culminated at the deputy commissioner’s office, where the members submitted a memorandum to chief minister Arjun Munda and education minister P.N. Singh.
New meters
JAMSHEDPUR: Secure Metre Agency, a Ranchi-based metering agency, has taken up the contract of supplying computerised meters to sub-stations in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan districts. General manager of Jharkhand State Electricity Board, Jamshedpur area, C.D. Kumar said this will counter pilferage.
JMM meet
Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) organised a meeting in the capital on Tuesday to plan a strategy to combat the alleged conspiracy against party chief Sibu Soren. The meeting was presided over by party district president Premchand Mehto.
Tour cancelled
Ranchi: Jharkhand Congress Committee in-charge Harikesh Bahadur cancelled his three-day tour of the state due to floods in Bihar. Bahadur will tour the flood-affected areas of the neighbouring state following directions from Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The dates for Bahadur’s Jharkhand visit will be fixed later, said party spokesman Sailesh Kumar Sinha through a press release. The meeting of all the district Congress presidents will be held according to schedule, Sinha added.
Workshop
Ranchi: A meeting of the Ranchi Mahanagar Mahila Samiti of the Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra was held on Tuesday. The samiti will organise a cooking workshop on July 21 for the benefit of vanvasi children. The entry fee will be Rs 100.
Bail plea rejected
Jamshedpur: The court of district judge R.R. Prasad on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of Md Halim, one of the key conspirators in the Mohan Singh murder case. Md Halim has been accused by police of planning the murder of cable operator and director of New SCCN Mohan Singh.
Fund collection
Dhanbad: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad started a three-day relief funds collection programme in Dhanbad to extend support to flood victims in Bihar.
Jharkhand Hockey Association will conduct a trial for under-18 and under-20 (boys) as part of the Indian Hockey Federation’s talent hunt programme. The selection will be held at Jaipal Singh Stadium at Mohrabadi in Ranchi from July 26 to July 28.
