Jamshedpur, Oct. 22: Even as filmmaker Prakash Jha faces opposition from washermen, under the leadership of JMM MP Shailendra Mahato, for his proposed multiplex project, a social organisation has openly extended support to the filmmaker.
The Maithili Brahmin Jagriti Manch has threatened to “come on streets” to take on those protesting Jha’s project.
In Jamshedpur, claims the manch, there are about 3 lakh Maithil Brahmins. Jha, too, is a Maithil Brahmin. “We strongly condemn the protest launched by some political outfits. This is just a political conspiracy,” Sidhartha Kr Jha, manch president said.
Sidhartha said the project will bring about economic prosperity by giving employment to thousands of youths. The administration has already made alternate land available to the washermen. In addition, the filmmaker has already made it clear, he will leave the area where the washermen dry their clothes, alone.
“We will support Jha as his is a good project,” he said. Asked if his organisation will support any Maithil Brahmin who faces similar hurdle, he said: “Any Maithil Brahmin who is a genuine will be extended support.”
The manch has till now been involved in match-making and other social works.
