A 14-year-old boy Ranjit Sah, was killed on the spot when a speeding-407 Tata truck crushed him near Sidhgora Petrol Pump on Agrico-Sidhgora Road late on Wednesday night. The mishap occurred when the class IX-student, a resident of Tataline, Sidhgora, was on his way back to home from tuition. His friend Sonu Singh was accompanying him. According to police the 407 Tata truck sped away towards Baridih after crushing the victim. Ranjit was rushed to the MGM Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries late in the night. The fast-track court of B.C. Shukla acquitted Hidayatullah Khan, alias Hidayat Khan, on Thursday, by giving him the benefit of doubt in connection with the K.D. Singh-murder case registered with the Golmuri police station in 1991. Hidayat and his associates, including Arvind Singh alias Malkhan Singh, Raju Giri, Dara Sharma, Satapal Singh alias Satte, Harpinder Singh alias Pinder had allegedly shot dead Krishna Dev Singh near his house in Garabasa under Golmuri police station. The police had registered a case against Hidayat Khan and others on the basis of an FIR lodged by Shyam Dev Singh, a relative of the deceased. The others who were involved in this case had been already acquitted two years ago. One new quality initiative, Six Sigma, was inaugurated at Tata Robins Fraser (TRF) on Thursday, jointly by managing director of TRF, Santosh Gupta, president of the company's labour union Rakeswar Pandy and assistant general manager (HRD and communications, Telco) N.K. Dutt, Speaking on the occasion, the TRF MD said the Six Sigma is a comprehensive world-class system suitable for achieving business objectives. “Closer understanding of customer needs and use of factual data and statistical analysis for fulfilling them forms the basis of the Six Sigma,” Gupta said. The union leader appreciated the initiative and said the step would go a long way in improving the customer services as well as the company’s performance. The Union ministry of power has selected Tata Steel for the National Energy Conservation Award-2002. Tata Steel was selected in the integrated steel plants sector category. The vice-president Bhairoan Singh Sekhawat would be handing over the award to Tata Steel at Delhi on December 14.
