Ramgarh superintendent of police Prabhat Kumar confirmed the arrest on Wednesday and said Shahi was absconding after an FIR was lodged against him and three other wardens in Rajrappa police station. Shahi was suspended, but escaped. He had managed to get himself transferred to Latehar jail in the same capacity after the incident.

Shahi, a resident of Gaganpura village in Jehanabad village came in contact with Sahu in Ramgarh jail where he was warden in 2017. He started helping Sahu and used to give his mobile phone to fime for making extortion calls, and threats to businessmen and few outsourcing companies.

Following a raid in Ramgarh jail, police recovered a mobile phone from Sahu's possession, revealing that four wardens, including Shahi, were helping him. The call details of the recovered phone also confirmed extortion and threat calls were made.

Kumar said the three wardens were arrested, but Shahi managed to steer out of the situation. A special team, led by DSP Prakash Soy, rushed to Latehar where he was arrested and brought back to Ramgarh on Wednesday. He said interrogation was on, and some valuable information has been elicited from him so far.
