ISM fest kicks off in style - Jal to regale, MTV VJ Rannvijay to host Mr & Mrs Srijan

Dhanbad, Feb. 24: The four-day techno managerial cultural fest of Indian School of Mines (ISM), Srijan 2010, kicked off here with a performance by Daksha Sheth Dance Company from Thiruvananthapuram today.

A dance performance by students was also held at the open air theatre of the institute on the occasion, considered to be the biggest technical meet of eastern India.

Director-general of the Directorate-General of Mines Safety S.J. Sibbal, who is also the president of the Indian School of Mines Alumni Association, was the chief guest. The technical event of the fest, Sparx, has already begun.

More than 2,000 students from 100 technical institutes across the country will participate in the technical, managerial and cultural events at the festival over the next three days. Some of these functions would be aimed at propagating the message of environmental conservation.

BTech third-year electrical engineering student Vicky Singla, who is also the sponsorship head of the festival, said a Sufi performance would be put up by Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali of Amritsar, Punjab, on Thursday. There will be participants from abroad, including Scotland, in the paper presentation programme of petroleum engineering department called Petro Penacia. The event sponsored by Shell Technology will be held on Friday at the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre. A performance by US-based band Blue, led by Simon Webb, will also be held on Friday. More than 20 colleges will participate in the preliminary rounds of the rock band competition, Avalanche, the same day.

The concluding day (Saturday) will see a performance by Pakistan band, Jal. The most eagerly awaited event, Mr and Miss Srijan, will be held on the last day. MTV VJ Rannvijay will be the anchor.
