Ranchi, Aug. 23: Jharkhand High Court today directed the investigating officer in the Sakchi jailer murder case to complete the probe within three months.
The jailer, Uma Shankar Pandey, was shot dead inside the jail premises on April 3, allegedly by Akhilesh Singh, the son of a police official posted in Jamshedpur.
Justice D.N. Prasad passed the direction while hearing a writ petition filed by the late jailer’s wife, Lalita Devi. The court directed the South Chhotanagpur deputy inspector general of police to ensure a fair and speedy investigation.
The petitioner’s counsel, Delip Jerath and Sujeet Narayan Prasad, contended that the investigation was not being done in a “proper way” as no charge-sheet was submitted while there was sufficient evidence against other accused as well.
In another case, the court directed the Railway Board chairman and the general manager, South Eastern Railway, Calcutta, to appear in person before the court on August 28 regarding the beautification of exterior part of Ranchi railway station.
A division bench of Chief Justice V.K. Gupta and Justice Hari Shankar Prasad passed the directive while hearing the writ petition filed by Ranjeet Kumar Tibrewal.
The court also ordered the removal of the Ranchi divisional railway manager.
The order came because the DRM had failed to make alternate arrangement for a temple, situated on the campus of the railway station.
In another case, a monitoring bench directed the Union Government to expedite the prosecution sanction of MP Rajo Singh, an accused in the fodder scam, so that proceedings against him could begin.
