Dhanbad, May 23: Girls of the coal capital reigned supreme in the Plus Two CBSE examination even as boys excelled in the nearby steel city, Bokaro.
Maintaining the trend set by the ICSE and ISC board examinees of Dhanbad this year, it was an all girls’ show in the coal hub.
Girls clinched the top positions in all the three streams — science, arts and commerce — in most of the schools in the district.
Priyanka Agarwal of Rajkamal Saraswati Vidyamandir emerged as the district topper in the commerce stream with 95.2 per cent marks.
Sneh Bharti of DAV Public School, Koylanagar, clinched the top position in the district in the science stream scoring 93.8 per cent.
Anuja Beotra, a student of Dhanbad Public School, clinched the honour in the arts stream in the district with 89 per cent.
In Delhi Public School (DPS), Eepsa Mukhopadhyay topped in the science stream with 93 per cent.
But she was unhappy over her score in physics, a common complaint of the science stream examinees.
Low score in physics owing to tough questions was the unanimous statement of the science students across the district.
Sandeep Goswami a science stream examinee of Rajkamal Saraswati Vidyamandir, scored 92.4 per cent but has challenged his marks in physics.
“He expected over 90 and has got 81,” the school authorities told The Telegraph today.
Commerce topper Priyanka, too, was dissatisfied with her score in business studies.
She, too, has challen- ged her marks.
“I expected at least 94 per cent, but I have got 69. I think it is a misprint and have pleaded for a recheck,” she said.
Though the marks of the toppers dipped this year in comparison to the last year, the pass percentage has increased, authorities of the top schools in the district said.
Last year, the state’s topper and India’s second in the Plus Two CBSE exam was Mayank Agarwal from Rajkamal Saraswati Vidyamandir. He had scored 98 per cent.
This year’s probable district topper Priyanka has scored 95.2 percent, 2.8 per cent less than the last year’s topper.
The teachers of the coal capital are happy over the better pass percentage, though.
The principal of Raj- kamal Saraswati Vidyamandir, Phul Singh, said that last year the pass percentage of the school was 98 per cent.
This year, it is 99.17 per cent, he added.
Principal of DAV Public School K.C. Srivastava was elated over the class average, which has sprung from 73 per cent last year to 75 per cent this year.
Principal of Dhanbad Public School D.A. Chetal is satisfied with his school’s cent percent result.
