Ranchi, May 12: With the onset of summer vacations, students of city-based schools are waiting for the fun to begin. A number of schools and city-based organisations have decided to hold summer camps to help students unwind after days of hard work.

The camps will involve co-curricular activities such as drama, sports, quiz, cartooning and painting competitions.

Delhi Public School has decided to host a 20-day sports camp with cricket and athletics training for students..?We are going to groom the students in sports. If we manage to groom a genuine talent the entire nation will he happy,? said Santosh Kumar Singh, sports teacher of DPS.

However, he rued that nowadays children are too engrossed in their studies and hardly get the time to indulge in sports. Summer vacation is the only time when the students can unqind in the absence of academic pressure. The school will also organise creative dance classes as part of the summer camp.

A student of the school, Shruti Parihar, aspires to be an athlete. Recently, Shruti won gold in an athletics meet. ?I want to treat sports as not just a hobby but also a career choice. As I do not get enough time, I take out at least one hour in the morning for practice. The 20-day summer camp is a golden opportunity to learn the nuances of sports,? added Shruti.

Principal of DAV Public School (Bariatu) Divya Singh, said the summer camp in the school will start from May 17 till May 28. Students would get an opportunity to take part in various types of activities like dance and yoga. ?I feel that summer camps provide great relief to students from their academic schedule. They get to mingle with other students and learn each other?s likes and dislikes,? added Singh.

Exposure, a social and cultural centre, is organising a 25-day acting and performance arts training camp at Gurunanak Higher Secondary School.

Director of the camp Sanjay Lal said, ?For the past three years these sessions were being organised at DPS. This year, it is being organised at Gurunanak School. Students will learn the basics of drama and a play will be staged to judge what they have learnt.?
