Jamshedpur, May 27: Students from four countries, including France, Sweden, Philippines and Germany, would come to XLRI as part of an international stu- dents exchange programme.

Officials of the B-school said that for the first time students from so many countries would be on the campus as part of the exchange programme.

“Except Germany, all other countries have confirmed the students’ participation at the exchange programme to begin in September. The students from abroad would stay at the B-school for four months,” said Shivapada Ray, the in-charge of students’ exchange programme at XLRI.

The management schools, which have confirmed participation, include Asian Institute of Management (Manila), EM Lyon and IESEG School of Management (both based in France) and Malardalen University (Sweden).

About 15 students from the four management schools abroad would be part of the students exchange programme.

The participation of students from Muenster University in Germany is yet to be confirmed.

“During their stay, the students would be expo- sed to various cross-cultu- ral activities and learn about the country’s economy and corporate world. The main objective of the programme is to enable these students to project the country's image and that of the B-school positively,” said Ray.

The students would take up elective courses as per their area of interest either from business management or personnel management and industrial relations, the two flagship courses offered by the B-school. They would also attend various sessions conducted by the expert faculty.

The B-school has an international student-exchange programme, which grooms pupils on various international issues.

As a part of the exchange programme, students from XLRI would also visit he B-schools in Philippines, France, Sweden and Germany.

According to Ray, the exchange programme helps in the final placements of students.

“Companies visiting the B-school during the annual campus recruitment programme look for students with international exposure. So, these students will definitely have an edge over others,” added Ray.

In fact, XLRI has signed memoranda of understanding with about 15 management schools in the US, Belgium, the UK, Manila, Hong Kong, France and Sweden for students’ exchange programme.

According to the MoUs, students who are part of the exchange programme would get a waiver in tuition fees. But, they would have to bear the expenses of fooding and lodging.
