Jamshedpur, Feb. 8: Those who said beauty is skin-deep did not live during the times of glycolic peels and microdermabrasion. With the craze to have perfect faces and flawless skins increasing, skin clinics in the city are witnessing a spurt in their clientele.

“The past 12 months has seen a tremendous growth in the number of people coming to our clinics,” said Ashok Rathod, a leading skin specialist. “From wannabee brides, to young executives and even school students, we get clients from all walks of life.” He would soon be establishing a cosmetology clinic, called Rejuvenne, on the lines of Kaya Skin Clinic and VLCC. It would be one of the earliest of its kind in Jamshedpur.

Apollo is also planing to come up with a laser hair removal clinic, another first for Jamshedpur, within 15 days. KK Skin Clinic and Reassert Institute in Sakchi are also eyeing a piece of the pie.

With such clinics, skin care treatment could become a regular among the middle-class also. “Not only the upper-class people, but the middle-class populace is also going for such treatments,” said R. P. Thakur, senior consultant at KK Skin Clinic.

“Though not like in the metros, the concept is surely catching on here. Till date, however, it was confined to the elite,” said Atul Taneja, a dermatologist at Apollo Clinic.

Apart from the look-good factor, the cost factor is also attracting people towards these clinics. While a regular session at any popular skin clinic in the metros would cost around Rs 1,200, it would cost around Rs 350 in Jamshedpur.

Doctors, however, warn these procedures are technical and should be done by experts.
