Ranchi, Aug. 30: Since his schooldays, Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been a frequent pilgrim at the Ma Deori temple in Tamar. Today, he went to pay his respects to the deity again, with his bride Sakshi Rawat in tow.
The newlyweds prayed before the deity who legend has it fulfils every wish of the faithful.
“We prayed for their long and happy married life. Dhoni is a regular here but this is the first time that he brought his wife along. The goddess always fulfils everyone’s wishes,” temple priest Manoj Panda told The Telegraph.
Dhoni, accompanied by his wife, father Pan Singh, sister Jayanti and brother-in-law Gautam Gupta, drove his Hummer to Tamar, situated 60km from the state capital along NH-33.
The family spent about half an hour at the temple before returning to Ranchi.
Earlier in the morning, director general of police Neyaz Ahmed dropped in at Dhoni’s Harmu Road residence briefly.
Asked about his meeting with Dhoni, Ahmed insisted it was a courtesy call. “He is a big celebrity so I decided to visit his home for a chat,” the police chief said.
However, sources said the DGP visited Dhoni’s home in connection with a case lodged by the Team India captain in Doranda police station.
Dhoni lodged an FIR at Doranda police station against the directors of a Calcutta-based company, Gameplan Sports Private Limited, for allegedly cheating him of Rs 10.5 crore.
The FIR was lodged on June 15 on the basis of a complaint sent by Dhoni through courier from Chennai to the police station.
The company thereafter filed a petition in the high court for quashing of the criminal case registered against its directors. The counsel for the company argued that Dhoni had suppressed material facts and lodged the criminal case only to harass the company and its directors.
On June 29, Jharkhand High Court granted temporary respite to Gameplan. The court of Justice D.G.R. Patnaik, however, rejected the petition of the company filed to quash Dhoni’s FIR.
Dhoni arrived in Ranchi last evening, a day after Team India’s loss to Sri Lanka in the tri-series finals.
He left for Delhi this afternoon with his wife.
